Whisky - for first Winter 15km flight PG or HG from Broughton

David Thomson from Lanark & Lothian Soaring Club is offering a bottle of whisky for the first pilot, this winter, to fly a 15Km soaring flight from Broughton.

Here's what David says:

Since everyone likes a challenge - here's one to work on over the winter ! I'm going to put up a bottle of whisky for the first person (from now ) to complete a 15km turnpoint flight by soaring at Broughton. I wouldn't want to discourage folk from going XC on a good day so this is intended as a bit of ridge soaring but its quite challenging to get the full distance. Here's the detailed rules ;-

1) Its open to all BHPA member PG and HG pilots.

2) It needs to be validated in the SHPF XC League

3) Take off on the ridge within 1500m of Lochurd Farm

4) Landing needs to be within 200 m of Lochurd Farm

5) Maximum height 2500 ft

BHPA Club Coach Course 24th + 25th March 07

Hi Everyone,

It has been a couple of years since there has been a coaching course in Scotland, and there must be many people now that have been considered for club coach in that time.
So just to let you all know that there will be a BHPA club coaching course 24/25th March, being organised by LLSC, with myself Sean Figgitt being the course contact.

Any LLSC members that would like to become a coach please get in touch soonest, and I can send out the joining instructions. Venue is yet to be decided, but most likely it will be Southern Scotland. Only requirements for qualifying for coach is: CP rated with at least 10 hrs logged and that you are a BHPA member. Anyone with less experience and are interested are welcome to attend, but they cannot become coaches.
This also is a invitation to other clubs to participate, now that we have users from other clubs using the LLSC goggle group site, and I would like to strike whilst the iron is hot so to speak, suggesting that any likely candidates for coaches from these clubs should contact me direct so that I can reserve a place for them on that weekend, I believe that there is also funding available from the SHPF for the various Scottish club members.

There is also a good possibility of pilots from below the border joining us and by posting this now I hope that I'm making sure that the Scottish clubs get the opportunity for first bite at the cherry, before the BHPA post it in the next Skywings. Spread the word guys and make sure your club candidates get there names in early along with their contact details of course.
Cheers,
Sean

Hang-gliding in Spain by Colin Harrison

I have taken an excellent article by Colin Harrison and made it into a page within the Articles section of this site. This was taken from a recent Doric Dangler.

This is about Colin along with Ian Smith and Ross Paterson who are all from the (Aberdeen Hang-gliding and Paragliding Club) AHPC going for a hang-gliding holiday in Spain earlier this year.

I have added just 3 Google Earth screen captures as well.
