....Thanks also to Scott Mather and Graeme Connelly for making the journey over from Angus and our own Highland pilot Neil Gerrard who journeyed from Skye for today's task.
I chose Meall a Bhuicaille for today's task which although proved flyable did not result in any major XC's. Big up to ANDY MACGREGOR who made the best of the lift and won the task with the single longest flight. In second place followed Scott Mather who used a second launch to get away towards Badaguish.
Conditions on MAB proved tricky with lift rising up the side of the hill in unexpected directions and also thermals racing through the gap. Despite good clouds overhead and over the back no-one quite connected with unbroken lift and went over the back towards Cromdale.
I took plenty photos - If anyone wants images from these let me know and I will send Hi-Res versions.
..... Thanks to everyone for an enjoyable weekend.

Iain Robertson also took some video during the day.
Arran
The plans for the Arran round (6th + 7th August 2011) with Flying Fever- were to meet opposite the ferry at 10:45 , Brodick - Saturday 6th August. A fairly simple task was then set from Windmills - 2 turnpoints some distance either side of launch and then fly as far as possible. As rain was due the launch window was open imediately - and everyone launched pretty quickly thereafter - all bar Bob Matthews ended up with a slightly extended ttb. Bob Mathews managed to stay aloft after a second launch and completed the task .
On a personal basis as this was the first time I have ever flown in Arran - it is just so gorgeous - and as I said when I called my wife on landing it is a little bit like Eden!
The task completed and the rain still swerving around Arran due to its own micro-climate another flight / ground handling opportunity occurred at Strings - another nearby site to Windmills which was also very enjoyable
I was impressed and cannot praise Zabdi at Flying Fever highly enough - I for one will be returning. Bob Veitch
SMPC
Upto July only the SMPC had atually run an event - but what an event ..
To find all the discussion on the weekend I am afraid one has to go here - everyone is very welcome to post within the SHPF Group of course !! - but the link is here
Extracting the best ...
Saturday - 2nd July 2011 - Al Bowman - Toddled up (ok, gasped and wheezed up ) Bheinn Ghlas as the previously epic looking sky filled in almost completely and sat and waited as people popped off and slope landed; and again; and again.
Finally Tim Jackson clawed his way up a bit, but not all of us could match this so gradually the Ben Lawyers centre car park filled back up with those thwarted of a 37 K task in favour of a near universal 2k top to bottom (is that a Scottish Nationals record - for task setting, at least?)
Sunday - 3rd July 2011 - Day two of the SMPC round of the Scottish Nationals enjoyed some wonderful conditions & produced one of the best tasks in living memory.
We sweated our way back up to Bheinn Ghlas and set a simple open distance task (slightly wary of over-estimating conditions as per day one).
Conditions improved throughout the day with the threatened spreadout never materialising.
Bob Matthews last seen very high above Blair Atholl and thought to be heading towards Glenshee/Braemar (a brilliant effort especially as he was first off the hill and showed us all the sky was working).
Stephen Peglar got to Blair Atholl around 35kms
Mike Jardine & Johan Kritzinger made Schiehallion at 20km.
I (Cliff Smith) got to Kenmore at 17km (after a very very low save on Meall Greigh.Ian Kennedy went over the back to Glen Lyon via Locahain nan Cat 10km (ish)
Gordon Smyth & Graham Saunders made Lawers where they got pub suck.
So everyone got away from the hill, enjoyed some magic thermalling and racked up some reasonable XC miles.
Looks like Bob Matthews will take some beating now (on a kilometre basis that is)
Looking forward to the next round. And you can look at the results link above to find a link to Bob`s flight
