ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

SATURDAY 25TH FEBRUARY 2006, RATHO ADVENTURE CENTRE

Present:

As shown below

Introduction

Alistair Bowman opened the meeting by welcoming members.

Minutes and Outstanding Actions from last AGM (26th February 2005) - Alistair Bowman

Access Rights had now come in but have not had much impact. No issues known. Alistair encouraged all members to advise SHPF if any problems do arise.

The £1000 Grant Aid from Sportscotland had been received.

Approval of the Minutes of 2005 AGM

Proposed:Logan Nisbet
Seconded:George McGhee

Chairman's Report

Alistair was pleased to report that some great flying had taken place in 2005.

Chris Canata and Bob Gair were 10th and 13th in the BHPA XC League and these flights mostly took place in Scotland. Very impressive and great flying.

More pilots are entering flights in the League and overall producing better results.

Subscriptions

Membership had dropped by 30% on average and these figures seem to reflect what is generally happening in all clubs.

SHPF

The Federation ran the Ratho Repack in 2005.

A First Aid Course never took place due to lack of interest.

Coaching Course never happened due to lack of new pilots coming through. This was also reflected in BHPA membership throughout the UK. Members and Clubs need to encourage new pilots coming through.

The only known BHPA schools in Scotland now are Zabdi Keen and Peter Shields.

The claims record is improving and may change the insurance situation and hopefully new schools may appear.

Grant from Sportscotland:

The accounts were submitted under the old system and the Grant given at same level.

First Aid Course:

A course will take place in April 2006.

Club Coach Course

The BHPA have a date possible in October. This is useful to all pilots including new ones.

Windtalker:

The dial up/pay per call system that Stephen Pegler set up at Glencoe was now out of action. As it was high maintenance and there was not much interest this was not being replaced. The meeting was advised that Stephen is putting up a system at Broughton.

Although 2005 was a quieter year it was hoped that this coming year would be busier.

Treasurer's Report

Alistair encouraged Clubs to run Coaching/Events and to claim expenses. A copy of Accounts was attached to the Minutes of AGM 2005. Not yet audited. The balance was £3644.61.

Sites and Safety Report

Cliff was not available at the meeting. The new proposed Sites Guide had met with mixed reaction but most clubs were open to some sort of Guide. Debate on where to host the Guide was being worked on. Gary Williamson is working on a new SMPC website. The Site Guide may be tested on there before it goes on to the SHPF site.

Safety: Apart from a nasty accident at Glenogle, no other incident was known.

SportScotland and Scottish Sports Association Report

Alistair had had no need to attend any meeting with formal representation. No problems have arisen over the year.

Communications

George McGhee offered his resignation as Editor of the Flying Scot. He received no contributions and therefore no publication was produced. The Flying Scot will not exist if members do not contribute. A new Editor now needs to be appointed and Alistair asked that Club Secretaries push members to contribute any items/stories/ads etc.

Brendan Reid to send details of the old website to Alistair Bowman so that he can approach John Rankin with a view to it being removed.

George McGhee is setting this up for late April.

AOCB

SHPF XC League-HG & PG:

Problems were created in methods of declaring flights. David Thomson to act as coordinator with access to site.

New Airspace Edinburgh:

Bob V started a discussion on the new airspace. CAA didnt consult as thought this a minor change. British Gliding and BHPA made representations but the reply was "Done Deal". However some members of the SMPC met with officials and new agreements have been set up for Hillend and other areas. These can be viewed at "www.smpc.highcloudbase.com". The question was asked how to record an xc flight if you have a letter of agreement. Rules can be found in XC League.
