Scottish SPOT
All,
Dave Wheeler, a pilot from the USA, has extended his website to include a group for Scottish pilots with SPOT locators. Now a single page shows where we are:
http://chorlton.homeip.net/spotmap/scottish.html
If anyone has a SPOT and wants to be included then please send me the url of your shared page and I will get Dave to set it up. This means that we are all visible in one place and anyone can check where we were last reported.
While we haven't exactly been flying a lot recently, hence why Trias and I are just shown where we switched on our SPOTs at home, it will hopefully help in the future, especially if there's a problem.
I'm a convert to SPOT as we do fly in remote places and the cost isn't that much for insurance. Or even for a retreive: I had a phone call this summer asking if I knew where Jules was and as I'd just had a text from his SPOT with coordinates I was able to pass these on and he had an easy pick up. I was also able to follow Misk while on his record-breaking flight, even though I was on a ship in the Caspian Sea.
If you do fly on your own or away from mobile phone reception I'd really recommend getting a SPOT.
Drop me an email at fly_matt@tiscali.co.uk or give me a call if you want to know more.
